Was previously wondering what benefit does a dried seahorse have if a human consume it when i chance upon articles on Winter Worm, Summer Plant.
many wondered if WWSP is a plant? worm? animal? fungi? haha it was really interesting reading about how it transforms from one to another. it looks really disgusting anyway.
+ i havent yet mentioned that I have drunk soup made with that before!!!!!! how disgusting can that be? the more i looked at it, the more i felt that it look familiar. so I asked my ahma about it & yes she said that she made that for me before when i was younger. Drinking that can help cure my asthma..... is that true?
haha nevertheless, i am not gg to touch that thing ever. gives me creeps.
Cordyceps Sinensis is a plant that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to restore energy, promote longevity, stimulate the immune system, and to improve quality of life. Ancient records claim that it is beneficial for the heart, circulatory system, liver, kidneys, respiratory system, and sex organs.- Health Touch Online
Chinese Caterpillar Fungus The Chinese caterpillar fungus, also known as Cordyceps sinesis, is a uniquecreature indigenous to the grassy marshland in China's Qinghai-TibetPlateau. It is regarded as one of the 3 top tonics in traditional naturalmedicine, along with ginseng and pilose deer-horn. In summer, it resembles aworm and in winter a grass. Hence the name in Chinese pinyin ³DongcongXiacao², which means literally ³Winter-worm & Summer-grass².
The growth of the caterpillar fungus is really amazing. In winter when aninsect (in its larva form) hibernates, the fungus spores sprout up andintrude into its circulatory system. The hyphae of the fungus grow sorapidly after absorbing nutrition from the larva that they eventually form atough shell covering the whole thing. Then the insect dies because of thisand becomes a firm and full hyphal body. The external part remains the same, which makes it look like a worm still. When summer comes around next year, the top part of the worm sprouts out from the earth and looks just like agrass. Mr. Pu Songling, a renowned Qing dynasty writer, has described thiswonderful change as following: ³The name Dongcong Xiacao accords with thereality, and the transformation happens smoothly. One thing can be bothanimal and plant, and the innate laws of things are mysterious indeed.²
Owing to its unique properties, the Chinese caterpillar fungus is rare inthe wild and so very difficult to collect. As a valuable medicinal herb, itis as precious as ³gold² in Chinese natural medicine. http://www.nowpublic.com/strange/fw-winter-worm-summer-grass
